Scope of work

Overview

The first stage is related to the required data to perform the analysis. The main required data are the flood values corresponding to different return periods, dam type and dimensions, dam location, survey of the downstream Wadi, etc The second stage related to the application of the simplified dam break analysis methods. The main objective of applying such analysis is to get an approximate estimate to the characteristics of the surge wave corresponding to dam break. Generating a complete hydraulic model to simulate the situation in the field and to test several scenarios of dam break modes. The next stage, and by the aid of the results of the developed hydraulic model, flood inundation maps has been generated to estimate increase in flow depth and velocity at points of interest downstream the dam. The final stage in the proposed methodology is to estimate the risks associated with the dam break scenarios and its effect on the downstream areas Rafash dam is situated on the North East part of Sultanate of Oman (Willayet Sur). The dam is mainly earth fill dam, it consists of the following layers:- The main objective of the project is to get an approximate estimate to the characteristics of the surge wave corresponding to dam break and its effect on the dam downstream utilities.
